Paleo Diet

It seems like a new diet appears every few years and makes a big impression on those who want to lose weight. There was the grapefruit diet, the cabbage soup diet, the no sugar diet and the low carb or no carb diets. If you think that the Paleo diet is just another fad diet program, think again. This diet relies on the same foods that cavemen ate years ago during the Paleolithic era. Before changing the way that you eat, you might want to learn more about this diet plan and how it can help you.

What is the Paleo Diet?
The Paleo diet, sometimes called the Paleolithic diet or the caveman diet, is a diet program that dates back to the 1970s. A nutritionist and food scientist published an article that talked about how modern men and women could lose weight following the same diets that cavemen once did. Though others published similar articles and books over the years, it wasn’t until the 2000s that the diet reached the mainstream. The diet calls for followers to divide their meals in a set way. Proteins should comprise around 35 percent of your daily calories, and up to 45 percent of your calories should come from non-starchy fruits and vegetables. The remaining calories come from starchy fruits and vegetables. You generally eat a large amount of lean proteins and healthy fruits and vegetables with minimal starch and carbohydrates.

What are the Benefits of the Paleo Diet?
Carbohydrates can cause a spike in your blood sugar, make you feel tired throughout the day and lead to bloating and excess fat around your midsection. The Paleo diet significantly reduces the amount of simple and refined carbohydrates that you eat every day, which can cut down on bloating and lead to weight loss. Improving the overall health of your body, digesting food faster and improving muscle mass are some of the other touted benefits of the diet.   If you want to get in shape, lose weight and improve your health, the Paleo diet might be the right diet plan for you.  Speak to your doctor to determine if this diet is right for you.
