You already know that regular exercise can help you shed those extra pounds and improve your health, but did you know that it can also help with stress? Even if you are the happiest person in the world, you still have your bad days. A small argument with your spouse can leave you in a foul mood, and pressures at work can make you feel like punching the wall. The next time you feel this way, hit the streets or the gym.

Everyone has that one person at work that they just can’t stand. Maybe it’s the coworker who constantly takes credit for the work you do, or maybe it’s that cubicle mate who can’t stop bragging about his or her kids. Trying to meditate with those people around is next to impossible, but you can head out of the office to exercise. Exercising lets you vent your frustrations and take out the anger and aggression that you feel without worrying that you might lose your job.

Change Your Mood

Stress puts you in a bad mood, which makes being around your family tough. Using a stress ball and other coping techniques won’t provide the mood change that you need. When you exercise, you release endorphins and change the hormone levels in your body. This instantly changes your mood and might even change your outlook on life.

Get Rid of Tension

Stress can lead to a number of health problems. It increases your risks of developing high blood pressure and heart disease, and stress can even lead to a heart attack or a stoke. Stress also increases the tension that you carry in your body. This is why you might notice that your shoulders feel tight or that you suffer from back pain after a particularly stressful day. Though you’d rather head home than head to the gym after a bad day, you’ll get more out of a workout than you would the television. Exercising for just 20 minutes can release that tension in your body and make you feel like someone just lifted a heavy weight off your shoulders.
